History

The barque Ellen Lewis (356 tons) sailed from St. Ann's Harbour, Nova Scotia, on 17 December 1859, for New Zealand, after calling at Capetown.  She reached Auckland on 14 May 1860. Among the 200 emigrants from Nova Scotia on board was Donald McLean, great grandfather of Douglas Clark McLean, owner of this ketch since 1 November 1994.  His parents, Neil Hartley and Nancy Christine McLean, named her Ellen Lewis on delivery (14 October 1974) at the suggestion of Douglas' late grandfather, Donald James McLean.
